Hohenschwangau Castles

We toured the two most famous castles in Germany today.  Hohenschwangau was King Ludwig II's boyhood home.  Built by his father, Maximillian, the castle has many beautiful areas and rooms.  We were able to tour the queen's rooms, the King's rooms, and some of the public areas.  Ludwig and his brother stayed in an annex.  Max died at age 53, so Ludwig took over as king at age 19.  Later he started building Neuschwanstein, but only lived in it for 172 days.  He was declared insane by a doctor in Munich.  The next day, he was found dead under unusual circumstances.  His younger brother was already declared insane, so his uncle became ruler.  Neuschwanstein is beautiful and extremely ornate.  19 carpenters crafted for 4 years in Ludwig's bedroom alone!  No pictures were allowed inside, but the exterior views were amazing.  Wayne and I crossed St. Mary's bridge and got additional views.

Tonight we are going to do some more things, so I will post pics of that and some of yesterday's travels in a separate post later on.
