We decided to see Burg Eltz and Remagen today. Burg Eltz is a beautiful castle, but, as is our way, it is under restoration so we got horrible pics of it. It was built in the 14th Century by 3 families and one family still uses it as a vacation home today. The bridge at Remagen was pivotal in WWII. The American Infantry was able to cross it and gain access to the city. Hitler executed all on his side who were in charge of defending the bridge, but by the way the Americans were depicted in the museum, you'd think we were Atilla the Hun. Oh well, I guess everyone has their own view of history. Gil, the owner of our hotel, is also a chef and prepares dinner for his guests on request. He made butternut squash soup, pork loin with mashed potatoes, and creme brulle for just the six of us. Do we have to come home???
